. complete bay area news coverage starts right now. this is the 10:00 news on ktvu channel 2. >> protesters again take to the streets of oakland, condemning what they call police violence. good evening. i'm ken wayne. >> i'm heather holmes. >> protesters with occupy oakland are marching through the city right now and so far there appears to be, nor repeat of that vandalism that led to mass arrests one week ago. kutv's eric rasmussen is live in oakland with what he has seen so far tonight. eric. >> reporter:

this is of course where they gathered earlier tonight. we want to show you a live look we have from a mobile camera that is following this crowd right now. we understand that this crowd may be about 100 pel or so west on mcarthur past webster. they have been marching for some time, but there is a live look at this march that is happen of. we can tell you it all started around 9:00. protesters appear to be make this way to oakland police headquarters bub they were blocked by a line of officers around 8th street and suddenly turned arund. the march has remained peaceful and i can tell you there have been chants of nonviolence. however, i should say it did not start that way tonight when three or four people with their faces covered threw a bottle of urine and a piece of wood at another news tractor-trailer. soon others came over to apologize and here is what one of the protesters had to say. >> we had no idea, whatever happened here was not part of the major group of people that

was over there right now. none of us knew what happened, and from my own personal opinion, from what these guys said it's messed up. >> reporter: and yet even within the occupy movement there appears to be disagreement about what the message should be tonight. earlier posts from occupyoakland on-line warned protesters to stay away and that frustrated neighbors who live nearby. >> they are hurting my city and it's not okay with me and i wanted to talk to some folks in the movement and share my thoughts. >> reporter: and the thought is perhaps that protesters marching tonight will make their way back to frank ogawa plaza. again we should repeat there appears to be no problems tonight. police are on high alert, of course because of what happened last week there was some vandalism at city hall and protesters made their way inside and so police are keeping a close eye on what is

happening. we'll do the same and brick you any update as they happen. eric rasmussen, ktvu chars. earlier today oakland mayor jean quan says she feels the saturday's marchings are the work of a splinter group that does not reflect the occupy movement as a whole. >> attacking the police is not an occupy message. the occupy message is supposed to be about equal distribution of weather, fairness and the banks and foreclosures. occupy nationally is a nonviolent movement. >> the mayor says she has heard from many oakland residents who say they support the occupy movement's goals, but have had enough of the anti- police demonstrations. in washington, d.c., all the tents are gone at the occupy d.c. encampment after an all day raid. police in riot gear cleared out macpherson square blocks from the white house. officials say occupiers are allowed to stay, but their

camping gear is banned under federal park rules. police say the raid was mostly peaceful, but one officer was taken to the hospital after being hit in the face with a brick. at least seven people were arrested. you will find continuing coverage of the occupy protests on the air and online at ktvu.com. just look for the tab at the top of the page. new at 10:00 tonight copper thieves find yet another target a state park. ktvu's jade hernandez talks to the park ranger tonight. >> reporter: that is right. this one small piece of copper isn't much, but imagine it in bundles all undeground. it's enough to tempt copper thieves right inside this park. california state park ranger darrell woodward knows where the thieves have been. he shows us the damage in one spot. the thieves dug a hole and inside dmv you can see they come and find the copper wire. >> they dig it up. >> my goodness, that is hard

it believe. i haven't seen anybody. this is the first time hearing about it. >> reporter: linda watt uses the trails within the benicia trail area everyday and had no idea this bathroom had no electricity because of the vandals. neither did little bear and his owner richard maddox. maddox lives nearby and is far from surprised. >> there is a lot of copper thefts everywhere. my neighbor's house got all the copper taken. >> reporter: the ranger says those stealing copper put in a lot of work along old phone lines within the park. >> they probably pulled it in. >> aa ranger when normally patrols the ground says in less than a year thieves have caused $30,000 of damage. >> . >> when you take the copper and essentially breaking down or thrashing whatever is

existing, it just requires money to repair. >> reporter: which is something a state park slated to close in july doesn't have. state park officials have contacted recycling centers hoping that they will keep an eye out. reporting live in benicia, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. four oakland men accused of stealing copper wire agreed it to a plea-deal. the member were caught driving away from the storage facility with bolt cutters and owner tools in their van. the men pleaded guilty to trespassing earlier this week. road woo city police arrested a teach, alexia boggedy and say bogdis is a teaer of autistic and developmentally disabled children. she is accused of child endangerment and battery on two 4-year-old businesses. police say the alleged incident

occurred on school property, but did not release any other details. police are searching for a gunman who shot and killed a man in east oakland. officers responded 105th near knight street after 2:30. that is when and where they found the victim of the his identity has been been released. paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene. police are offer up to $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. the coast guard found the boat belonging to 63 shau tsu wong of san ramon near ano nuevo state park. following the discovery, the coast guard and san mateo teams searched 3800 square nautical miles of ocean off the san mateo coast, but did not find any sign of the missing fisherman. the nevada caucuses are over and silver state republicans have made their choice in the g.o.p. race for president.

mitt romney easily won. he has 42% of the vote right now. newt gingrich is in second place. ron paul third and rick santorum last. ktvu's ken pritchett has more live from reno. ken. >> well, as you said, mitt romney as expected was declared the winner of the nevada caucus. romney confident of a win, spent today campaigning in colorado, before returning to nevada for a victory rally tonight in las vegas. >> reporter: it's another win for mitt romney, two election contests back-to-back, florida and now nevada. >> this is not the first time you gave me your vote of confidence and this time i'm going to take it to the white house. [ applause ] >> reporter: romney's ribry was never in doubt of the he won by a landslide in 2008 and has essentially had a campaign presence in the silver state ever since. the battle tonight was for second place between newt gingrich and ron paul. gingrich polled higher, but he

had virtually no organization in nevada. as opposed to ron paul, like romney had a significant ground game, considered key in a caucus state. >> time to vote. you all have your ballots. >> reporter: this morning voters went to caucus locations not just to vote, but hear surrogates for their candidates try to sway their vote. >> i think mitt romney has the experience of building businesses and bringing people together. >> reporter: cause of actioner-goers are considered to be highly motivated, invested in their party evidenced by giving up hours on their saturday. >> it's interesting and gives you a chance to meet your neighbors. >> reporter: the order of finish appears to be in line with poll with gingrich in second and ron paul in third, but paul appears to be doing at least so far better than the polls has suggested of the it's important to note that we're still awaiting votes coming in from clark county,

the man's death is changing other's lives. >> reporter: young people practiced their sport inside the berkeley skatepark today. but this sunny day was darkened by the knowledge that 18-year- old tyler de martini will not be skating here again. >> he was always really good- spirited and positive. it was pretty sad what happened. >> reporter: this is tyler on his skateboard. last monday night he was heading to the skatepark when he was hit by a car. two days later he was removed from life support. >> my son who is four and a half absolutely idolizes him. >> reporter: so today family and friends held a memorial bbq at the bark. was uplifting for his loved ones. >> it's amaze. everybody controlling out here is awesome. >> reporter: young anthony, the young son who idolized tyler is wearing

all the safety equipment. they wish all the kids would do the same. >> all of these kids think they are infallible and nothing will happen. it could happen any second. >> reporter: with that sobering thought his cousin made an impassioned plea. >> you never know, and if any thing comes from it, love for today. tell the people that you love them, because you just never, never know. i never thought it would end like this tyler's funeral is set for tuesday morning at 11:30 at sunset cemetery in el cerrito. we now know the name of a man who was struck and killed on interstate 280 in daly city this morning. the san mateo county corner identified the victim was 2- year-old david hanna. the chairperson chairperson says hanna was driving and hit a cement wall at 4:30 this morning. hanna then got out of his car and was struck by several

vehicles. one of those cars may by anewer, dark-blue toyota prius. a san francisco plaza bears a memorial to a beloved patrol officer. residents and elected officials unveiled a plaque at 17th and castro streets, officially naming the plaza after officer jane warner. in her 20-year career she was known for her love for her community, for community policing and support of the gay and lesbian only. warner died in may of 2010 of ovarian cancer. >> the announcement controls after criticism of the park's new dog management plan which would ban dogs from areas that they are currently allowed in. they will consider the ideas of citizens to come up with a new proposal by fall. volunteers gather interested in san francisco's chinatown to help spruce up the neighborhood in honor of lunar new year. as many as 400 people joined

the community clean team this morning at port smith square plaza. in addition, to picking up trash, the group painted over graffiti, removed weeds and overgroin vegetation in the neighborhood. the clean team also pecked up trash in north beach, pacific heights cow holo, russian hill and in the marina. in oakland, the asian cultural center hosted a community celebration also in honor of lunar new year. students played chinese music on traditional instruments and the younger ones learned about asian arts with hands on arts and crafts projects of the celebration included workshops about tradition yap music and dance. a quick reminder one of the highlights of the chinese- american celebration is of course san francisco's annual parade. this year the southwest airlines chinese new year parade is february 11th, next zad saturday in union scare and you can watch it live on ktvu.

our coverage begins at 6:00 people. it's a soggy night for people in one fremont neighborhood after a water-main break flooded the area. ktvu's allie rasmus shows us the damage and explains the possible cause. >> reporter: rescue water turned walkways into waterfalls flooding this residential street. >> it's like a river that deep. >> reporter: a water main that runs in between the neighborhood and interstate 60 started to leak before midnight. fremont firefighters were called in to help. >> they knocked on the door and told us to' evacuate because the rooms wered intoing. >> reporter: some returns this morning to assess the damage to their garages. >> it's full of mud. boxes and what i had on the floor are all over the place. dog food is all over the place. it's terrible. >> reporter: this morning, the clean-up began. the crews out here this morning are with the california department of water resources and they are the agency in

charge of the clean-up, because it was their water main that flooded the neighborhood. according to the department's? >> : the main had been dray for the last three weeks for some repairs and maintenance work. problem happened when they turned the water back on. we were introducing the water to it. it leaked through a manhole cover and flooded about 15 backyards, some games and. >> reporter: the force of the flood eroded part of the hillside around the main. the department of water resources isn't sure yet whether the cover itself was broken or if a maintenance worker forgot to screw it back on tightly. either way the agency is assessing the damage and will pay for the clean-up. there is a new lead tonight in that gold heist. investigators say it's not

clear how the thieves broke the case that was supposedly made of unbreakable case. all the gold in the case was bother $3 million, but officials are trying it determine just how much of it was stolen, $$15,000 reward is offered for information that leads to an arrest and could be vision. the 9th circuit court of appeals in san francisco issued a ruling that could affect logging in the sierra nevada. the panel issued the decision and the ruling says that laws were violated in the leadup of the 2004 decision bit bush administration to expand logging in the sierra. the judges says it did not take into can cannot the effect on fish and wildlife. it could force the white house to look at future logging policies. trying to stop a war before it even starts. the huge march today in san francisco, and the message a father-in-law face adds to the protesters. >> a little bit later on see how a bay area brewery is bringing back life to

months of the year. un has kept records for five years and each year the number of those killed as increased. and in australia it's look like an awful repeat of summer flooding. flooding in queens lapp and new south weal has forced 17,000 people weals has from their homes. one woman was killed and two others seriously injured in a propane gas explosion of it happened near a marine training base in mono county. it happened about 9:00 last night in a housing unit in the mono county town of colville. two victims were flown to burn centers. they both suffered third-degree burns. saving an industry one beer at a time.

. once again another sunny mild day across the bare of the we have been using that same line over the past several weeks of a few minor changes developing in the five-day forecast. on live stormtracker 2, a few high clouds approaching the coastline, but no raindrops in the forecast. this was the scene across the bay. you can see the sunset just after 5 post and some of the high clouds increase way out in the distance, but still wrapping up a beautiful saturday afternoon and still mostly clear skies right now. forecast headlines for tonight, temperatures are cooling off. in the northern bay, santa rosa into the lower 40s.

for tomorrow, partly to mostly sunny skies. extended forecast features a rain cloud into tuesday, but sun-cloud mix. as far as overnight lows get ready to bubble up. once again we're dealing with extremes with cold morning numbers, but the afternoon a nigh recovery. san francisco at 45 and san josi in the upper 30s at 39 degrees. for your sunday, the dry weather pattern remains locked in place and, in fact, temperatures do come up a few degrees from today's high with this high pressure in place and the mild weather pattern sticking around for one more day. this system developing in the pacific will be a factor beginning early in the week. as we head into monday, increasing clouds and then rain clouds could be pushing back into the region. in fact, fairly good bet by late monday night and into tuesday. rainfall expectations could be on the order of .25" to possibly 1" for the north bay coastal hills. tomorrow a few high clouds during the afternoon hours. still a fairly nice sunday. into monday, here comes from the cloud cover as we head into
